Latest Report shows Alaskans continue to support campaign
Support for the Mark Begich for U.S. Senate campaign continues to be strong across Alaska with Begich raising more than $400,000 in the five weeks between July 1 and August 6. In the report being sent to the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) today, the Begich campaign brought in $412,549.02.
“Our focus of talking about the issues that impact Alaska families most, such as energy costs, health care and education, appears to be taking hold,” Begich said. “Alaskans are looking for independent, ethical leadership from someone who is familiar with the issues they deal with on a daily basis.”
In the Pre-Primary reporting period that ran from July 1 to August 6, a total of 1,526 people donated to the Begich campaign. Of those donors nearly 1,200 gave $100 or less.
“Every day, across this great state, more and more Alaskans are investing in the future of their state. I am thankful for the incredible support I have received and I will continue to listen to Alaskans and work hard to make a difference in their lives,” Begich said.
Although current law only requires donations of $200 and above be reported to the FEC, Begich is listing all donations to his campaign in line with his belief that elected officials should be open and transparent and practice full disclosure of campaign reports.
Begich’s recent report reflects an average of $11,149.97 raised each day of the five-week period. The 745 page document must be postmarked today and received by the FEC in Washington by Thursday.
Overall, since announcing his senate exploratory effort at the end of February, Begich has raised just over $1.7 million from more than 5,600 donors.
