Why I'm Running to Represent Alaska
Click "Read More" for a transcript...
Hi, I'm Mark Begich and I'm running to represent Alaska in the United States Senate.
In February I formed an Exploratory Committee to see if the people of Alaska thought it was right for me to run.
I wanted to hear how people in communities across this state were doing, what they’re concerned about … and I wanted to know if they thought it was time for a change in Washington, DC.
And you know what their answer was? Yes.
We have real challenges in Alaska.
We're feeling the effects as the nation spirals into recession. It’s costing more and more to fuel our cars, heat our homes, and feed our families. And that means it’s getting harder and harder to pay for health care, save for college, plan for retirement or even just pay the rent or the mortgage.
Alaska is ground zero for global warming. All you have to do is look at the shrinking polar ice cap and the devastating effects it’s having on our rural communities to know we have to do something.
And for too long, Alaskans have been hurt by secret deals and hidden favors for the special interests.
It's time for Alaskan solutions to Alaska's problems.
From an Alaskan energy policy that relies on non-renewable and renewable energy resources, to health care for all Alaskans, to representation in Washington that is committed to transparent government.
I’ve always believed that if you’re in public service, everything should be out in the open, because that’s how we are as Alaskans.
Alaska deserves better. And I am determined to be a senator for all of Alaska.
I’m reminded of how important that is every day of my life …
I lost my Dad thirty-six years ago. I was ten at the time, but as I travel around Alaska today, I can still see the legacy of his years of service in Congress.
Public service is the daily challenge of helping to make people's lives better. What can I do today that will make a difference in the life that ten year old that I see today?
That's why our campaign is so important.
This campaign isn't about me...it's about Alaska. I need your help to create the change we all know we need.
Please visit www.begich.com today and join our campaign's email list, make a donation, and volunteer to help us bring a better Alaska for a better future.
Thank you.
